CanvasRenderingContext2D.shadowColor

The CanvasRenderingContext2D.shadowColor property of the Canvas 2D API specifies the color of shadows.

Syntax

ctx.shadowColor = color;
color
A DOMString parsed as a CSS <color> value. The default value is fully-transparent black.

Examples

Using the shadowColor property

This example uses the shadowColor property to set the color of a shadow around a rectangle. Note that shadows are only drawn if the shadowColor property is set (non-transparent) and either the shadowBlur, the shadowOffsetX, or the shadowOffsetY property are non-zero.

HTML

<canvas id="canvas"></canvas>

JavaScript

var canvas = document.getElementById('canvas');
var ctx = canvas.getContext('2d');

ctx.shadowColor = 'red';
ctx.shadowOffsetY = 10;
ctx.shadowOffsetX = 10;

ctx.fillStyle = 'green';
ctx.fillRect(10, 10, 140, 100);
